About the CompactCMS project

For a long time now I've been freelancing for numerous clients in designing and developing their websites. Up to now I always used Joomla for the content management of their websites. More than once however I had to conclude that a CMS like Joomla was way too difficult for my end-users to work with and came up with too much restrictions in the way I work.

I like to create a template file with the CSS in an external file and give my end-users only access to the content which will be included within the template file. If I need a contact form, guestbook or any other application I don't want to be dependant of the CMS I'm using. I want to be able to open up the content file and program directly within that file.

And exactly this was something that I couldn't easily find on the net. So I figured that I should create it myself. Friends of mine got excited after seeing the results, which made me decide to put the whole package online on the 18th of June 2008 for everyone to use. In the mean time many users have helped me improve CompactCMS and with help of the community I'll try to keep improving the CompactCMS project.
